Home Visiting

The goal of the Infant & Early Childhood Mental Health Home Visiting Programme is to make sure families are supported to help their children grow and develop in a safe and stimulating environment.

The Home Visiting Programme is available for families during pregnancy and up until the child turns four years old, which is a critical period of growth and development. Home Visitors aim to build a relationship with each family and work with their strengths. They also work with other agencies and services to providing comprehensive support. The programme is family led, so they determine for themselves how long they want to engage with the programme.

The core elements of the programme include:

  • Early relationship assessment and support
  • Developmental guidance
  • Emotional support
  • Advocacy
  • Concrete assistance

If families would like speech, language, and communication supports they can meet with a Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) as part of the programme. SLTs focus on a child’s interactions with parents and caregivers, to promote early language and communication development.
